Join The Spectator’s expanding team as our Washington correspondent and work with the best journalists, authors, critics and cartoonists since 1828.
As Washington correspondent you will lead The Spectator’s political coverage in the United States, reporting on the major political stories of the day. You will work closely with the US editor and deputy US editor to cover the Trump administration, Congress and political events across the country, including gathering exclusive content and breaking stories of your own.
The Spectator is the world’s oldest weekly magazine, and there’s never been a better time to join us. This role is full-time and based in Washington, DC.
The ideal candidate will have:
● At least five years of experience working at a newspaper, magazine or online media outlet
● At least three years working in political coverage
● A proven track record of breaking stories
● Excellent writing and reporting skills
● Willingness to work in with a start-up mentality; will need to be flexible and responsive to fast-moving events
● An understanding of The Spectator’s brand and style
The ideal candidate will be expected to:
● Writing for The Spectator’s US print and online editions
● Cover breaking news stories
● Write and contribute to Spectator newsletters
● Appear on Spectator broadcast
● Brainstorm ideas and angles on news stories — and make judgments about what stories to prioritize and cover
● Help commission articles when needed
● Work flexibly and out of hours
Salary dependent on experience.
